Onion traders have vacated the Agbobloshie Market after 20 years of plying their trade, forming part of a decongestion exercise spearheaded by Greater Accra Minister, Henry Quartey.
Today, marks the final movement of onion sellers from the Abogbloshie market to the Adjen Kotoku market square.
This comes after several weeks of negotiations between the Ministry and stakeholders in the value chain.
Following the movement of about 3,000 traders to the site on Wednesday, Mr Quartey is commending traders who began adhering to the directive to move even before the July 1 deadline.

“We want to thank the onion sellers themselves. Indeed they have demonstrate patriotism, they have showed that they are Ghanaians and they mean well for Accra to work and so this is a collective victory to us,” he said.
He also encouraged the onion traders to get “onboard to ensure that we make the very place that we work, the very place that we make earns meat an enabling environment so that we can leave a legacy.”
He, however, says officials will today move unto the land to ensure all have adhered to the directive.
“It’s a dual carriage; it’s a deadline and a show down so we are moving in and we are taking possession of the place. Most of them have taken off their roof and they have actually headed to Adjen Kotoku but I am saying that the time has come so we will go in there, clear all the debris, secure the place and then hoping it will another use equally important for Ghana,” he said.
