The the latest edition of the AgriWoman Marketplace, a monthly agricultural fair, organised by AgriHouse Foundation, recorded the highest participation since the inception of the programme.
As usual this month's month's program was held at the company’s premises at Dzormulu in Accra. Dubbed, 'Agrihouse Marketing Place', the programme is designed to create a 'smart market' for women in agriculture to sell their produce.
About 40 agricultural entrepreneurs who participated in the fair, displayed a wide range of foodstuffs, packaged and processed foods.
Speaking during the Opening Ceremony, the CEO of the Foundation, Madam Alberta Akosa, said, the AgriWoman Marketplace is an idea that is designed to support women by providing access to other markets in the country.
She said the Foundation realised during the pandemic that majority of women farmers, especially the processors, faced many challenges in selling their produce.
“It's really been tough and during my interaction with them, I realised that things were not moving as it was supposed to, as a result of Covid-19," Madam Alberta Akosa said.
According to her, the programme will support the women, to recover from the effects of the pandemic and create a networking platform for them so they can share ideas among themselves.
"We started with 22 women, we supported them by taking up the cost of the canopies, publicity, graphics, videography and photography. During the second month, we were able to support 25 of them.
In the third month, we were financially constrained, we didn't even want to do it. But we kept receiving calls from the majority, let's do it, let's do it, and then we were able to support," Madam Akosa revealed.
Madam Esi Acquah, a participant who was full of praise for Agrihouse Foundation for the training and capacity building programmes, commended the Management.
She said through the programme, she has been able to secure a contract.
Madam Benedicta Edna Amoah, who is the CEO of Afripub Enterprise, produces Sonkom, a food beverage, prepared from Northern Ghana, said her participation in the programme has introduced her to numerous customers.
