The senior national table tennis team, the Black Loopers are putting up a good show at the on-going ITTF Africa Western Region Championship in Nigeria with eye catching displays. Both male and female teams are churning out good results.
Thirteen year old Emmanuella Yaa Kyere is in the quarter finals of the women’s singles tournament after ousting the number one players of both Togo and Benin in the group matches. Although inexperienced and playing her debut tournament outside Ghana, Emmanuella from Asoba Foundation played very well to the delight of the fans to beat her more experienced opponents.
Speaking to media men after her matches, Emmanuella praised her performance on the support of her coach Dora Sarpong who discovered her, national team handlers, senior colleagues and the Ghana Table Tennis Association.
Current champion of Ghana Emmanuel Commey has also qualified to the semi-finals of the men’s singles competition after beating Nigeria's wonder kid Samuel Boboye in the quarter finals. The match ended 3 - 2 in favour of Emmanuel Commey.
Commey has also qualified to the finals of the men's doubles with his partner Derek Abrefa.
Ghana’s team is made of Derek Abrefa, Emmanuel Commey, Godwin Alabi, Gado Nuhu, Cynthia Kwabi, Eva Adom-Amankwaa, Emmanuella Yaa Kyere and Blessing Labanti. The team is coached by Robert Amartey and managed by Oforiwaa Adjei and William Asare.
