Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum believes Ghana’s victory against South Africa was a fair one, amidst reports the South Africans are looking to FIFA and CAF to investigate the match officials.
Ghana was awarded a penalty, which Dede Ayew converted from for the game's only goal, after Daniel Amartey fell in the penalty box. South Africa's football association are also sceptical about certain decisions made by the referee in the course of the game.
The South Africa Football Association (Safa) have written to football’s highest governing body to look into the performance of Senegalese referee, Maguette Ndiaye, in their game against the Black Stars.
According to the president of Safa, South Africa have lodged a complaint to Fifa and Caf to investigate Senegalese referee, Maguette Ndiaye, for what they describe as an alleged match fixing.
Henry Asante Twum, who disagrees with their claims, says their counterparts have the right to go to Fifa but feels that will not change the result of the game.
“That is all they can do. We don’t think we gave them a raw deal. The referee on the day was okay,” he said in interview with JoySports when questioned about the decision of Safa to go to Fifa.
“We’ve been to places where officiating did not go our way but we did not comment. Things will not always go your way. They set up to defend and until we scored and got to the last 15 minutes of the game, that’s when they started piling pressure in need of the equaliser.
“We respect their decision. They can go to Fifa but I’m afraid, I don’t think it will change the outcome of the game. We won fairly and fought very hard for it. We are glad that we are through to the next stage,” he added.
Milovan Rajevac’s side finished top of Group G, and now await who they face in the play offs of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
