The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has stated that currently, there's no evidence suggesting that the available Covid-19 vaccines are ineffective against the Omicron variant.
Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, who made this known on the Super Morning Show on Friday, thus, entreated the population of the general public yet to be vaccinated to do so to ensure maximum protection from the virus.
"We need to scale up our vaccinations," he said.
He was addressing public concerns following the mandatory vaccination directive instituted by government.
Dr Asiedu Bekoe justified the directive, insisting that the public's health overrides that of individual choices.
“We’re titrating the benefits against the risks, and the risks are far far less compared to the benefits of getting the population vaccinated, and I think that should be the direction,” he said.
While imploring the unvaccinated population of the general public to get vaccinated, he noted that there have been no record of adverse side effects of the use of the vaccines in the country.
The GHS Director of Public Health acknowledged that though the vaccines may have some adverse side effects on some individuals, there have not been records of any profuse side effects on the over six million Ghanaians vaccinated so far.
He added that government will make sure that anyone who comes through our ports of entry is vaccinated.
