The Cuban government has pledged to support Ghana in the transformation its economy through education development.
This was announced by the Cuban ambassador to Ghana, Anette Chao Garcia, when she paid a courtesy call on the Education Minister on Wednesday, January 5.
She said her office will soon engage the government to discuss areas that need a boost under the sector, adding that both countries will strike partnership agreements to strengthen the cooperation between the countries in education.
‘The people of Cuba are very happy with the state of development in Ghana. I am here to find means of contributing towards this noble achievement by the government of Ghana,” she said.
She highlighted that her country is ready to support the improved training of teachers in the field of special education. Anette Garcia was hopeful a feasible roadmap can be drawn to achieve this goal.
Plans are being made to award some Ghanaian students scholarships to study in Cuba. This, the ambassador believes, will go a long way to develop science, technical, engineering and mathematics education in the country.
On his part, the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, welcomed the move and stated that the Akufo-Addo-led administration is bent on turning the fortunes of the country around through education.
He lauded the Arab Development Bank for accepting to construct 15 STEM academies across the country to complement government’s efforts of improving of STEM education.
Dr. Adutwum further noted that government is creating an avenue for students to pursue courses of their interest to help them contribute towards the development of the country and the rest of the world.
TVET Service
In a related development, the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia recently launched the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service, an initiative aimed at giving a facelift to TVET education in the country.
It is expected to be the backbone for the country’s industrialisation drive, will offer a wide range of programmes that will harness career pathways for the Ghanaian youth.
