One of the stories making headlines in the various media outlets is the University Teachers Association's strike which started on January 10, 2022.

The most affected people - parents and university students on many occasions have called on the striking teachers and government to come to a consensus for a smooth teaching and learning process.

However, a University of Ghana student called Christabel has surprised many with her stance on the UG branch's vote against the suspension of the strike following a court ruling.

Speaking with Emefa Adeti on Prime Morning on Thursday, the caller who is currently home said, she is going about her business to raise some money.

According to Christabel, the lecturers have to be served with the best for them to teach well. She added that she will be home until her lecturers inform her that they have been given what they want.

"... No, I am not coming to campus now. If I come to lectures and they are not given the best, how can they teach me well? The government should give the teachers what they want. I support them 100%," she stated.

When Emefa asked what she is currently doing, Christabel said, she is learning IT, using beads to make bags and learning how to braid as well.

"I have been learning some IT and doing some handy-works to raise some money," she noted.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has resolved to suspend its industrial action temporarily.

This followed an emergency meeting by UTAG’s National Executive Committee on Monday to evaluate their ongoing strike.

However, the University of Ghana (UG) branch of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), has voted against the decision by the National Executive Committee of the Association to suspend its nationwide strike.

In a tally result signed by the Electoral Commissioner of the UTAG-UG branch, Dr. Innocent Lawson, 596 UTAG members voted against the suspension of the strike; while some 127 others voted to accept the decision by the National Executive Committee of UTAG to suspend the strike.

Based on the outcome of the vote, academic work still remains on hold at the University of Ghana, Legon.
