Director of Elections and Research of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Nimako, has stated that the party will not entertain proxy voting in this year’s election of Constituency executives.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM s Midday News on Wednesday, Mr Nimako said the Constituency election committee has been mandated to exhibit the constituency voter's register at the Constituency secretariat.
His comments come after reports that there is tension at the Dome Kwabenya constituency over claims that names of aspirants aligned to the current MP have been removed from the constituency register.
Reacting to this, Mr Nimako said the party will not entertain any untoward from the stakeholders in the election slated for Thursday, April 28.
Mr Nimako insisted that the “Election Committee will collaborate very well with the EC and get the election done when the time is due.”
He added that “if there are any issues, it must be forwarded to the appropriate office for redress.”
According to him, the party is set for the Constituency’s election from Thursday, 28 April to Monday, May 2, to elect the new Constituency executives.
“The directives have been clear, and we are clear. Therefore, the EC will conduct the election,” he said.
Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party has identified four constituencies as hotspots ahead of its constituency elections.
The flashpoint constituencies are; Dome Kwabenya, Odododiodioo and two others.
Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party, Divine Agorhom, disclosed this in an interview with Joy News’ Kwesi Parker-Wilson.
He said the party has engaged the Inspector General of Police to beef up security in these areas during tomorrow’s election.
