A tourism forum under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has been held in the Volta Region with a call on all stakeholders to help improve on the index to make hotel rates affordable and to be very competitive with the neighboring countries.
The convener of the forum, Mr. Maxwell Amekpor, CEO of Shekina Glory Hotel noted that, in order to help improve the index on the tourism industry, a lot needs to be done in the sector.
Mr. Amekpor noted that in order to make Ghana an option for tourism, there is the need to give proper attention to the tourist sites and develop the attractions the country has especially in the Volta Region.
He noted that there is also the need for domestic tourism to be re -vitalized and given the needed attention. "To make Ghana an option for tourism, we need to give proper attention to our tourist sites and develop the attractions we have in our region and the country as a whole” Mr. Amekpor said.
He noted that, there are several significant number of attractions in the Volta Region that needs to be visited and explored.
Mr. Amekpor noted that to ensure the sustainability of tourism destinations, there is that need for a stronger involvement of all relevant actors, adding that for tourism to strive, "we need a collaboration between practitioners and all stakeholders."

The Volta Regional Director for Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Alexander Nkatiah took the the participants and stakeholders through a presentation on tourism attractions in the Volta Region and the need to make such tourist sites marketable to the world.
Professor Christopher Mensah of the Ho Technical University also took the participants through tourism potentials in the Volta Region and its development.
The forum is under the theme, “Training and Attractions; key to tourism development" and was graced by the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, Chairman of Ghana Tourism Authority, who chaired the programme, Mr. Seth Adjei Bath, Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Former Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mr. Ken Dzirasah and a host of dignitaries and hoteliers.
