Hiplife musician Skrewfaze has revealed that he got his stage name after an incident in senior high school.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, on Tuesday, he explained that during a game of basketball, he exhibited some skills on the court while playing with one of his seniors.
The move, Skrewfaze said, got him some cheers, but his senior was mocked by his colleagues.
“He got pissed after that. So we got into a little brawl and everything. He had a screwdriver, so when I turned my back, he took it out. A friend warned me but when I turned, attempting to dodge, it still got part of my forehead,” the musician narrated.
The musician, born Jehoshaphat Kwabena Eshun, stated that he had to be taken to the hospital for emergency care and stitches.
Skrewfaze said later, his father paid him a visit and his teacher could only remember him as the guy who got his face cut with a screw driver.
“When my father came looking for me, he said ‘I am looking for Eshun’. He said ‘my son got into trouble recently and had a cut on his forehead’, that is when my teacher asked ‘where is the guy who got his face screwed?’”
“One guy in my class who heard him shouted, “hey Skrewface,” and that is how the name got stuck,” the ‘Gbalagazaa’ hitmaker stated.
The artiste noted that everyone from then called him Screwface, despite his initial resistance.
Although the incident that gave him his now popular name was an unfortunate one, Skrewface believes it has turned out for the best.
“Now I should even look for my senior and give him royalties,” he told Andy Dosty, host of the show.
