Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana Dr Kwame Asah-Asante is unperturbed by the Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong's comment.
According to the academic, the comments mean that the legislator has no message for the electorates.
Dr Ansah-Asante said comments like these are usually made to create fear and panic in voters in order to vote towards a certain desired direction.
“Once you issue a statement like this, it tells me that you don’t have any message for the electorates and that you want to rely on propaganda – the fear factor, appeal to fear to convince voters or put the fear of God into them to be able to vote in a certain direction or create even panic that they don’t go out to vote.
Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong says the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not hand over power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the party will use whatever means necessary to remain in power in the 2024 general election.
He added that if the NDC dares to use threats, and brute force in the 2024 election, the NPP will show them that they have the men.
According to him, the NDC will collapse and the NPP we will show them that “we have the men”.
Mr Acheampong said this will never happen and that the NPP will stand on a platform to hand over power to the NDC.
But the expert says this will not deter voters from voting for their preferred candidates
“You and I know that this will not happen because this country has gone through a lot of things and this cannot be a threat that will prevent people from going to vote.
"They’ll vote anyway – they’ll vote based on their feeling, based on what they see, what they experience. So this cannot be something that will throw them away,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Asah – Asante has explained that the MP’s statements should not be of huge concern because he did not say the NPP will not hand over power to the NDC when the ruling party loses the election.
He has however indicated that by the use of “all means” in his statement, “veil threat” is expressed.
