Some staff of the Public Utilities Workers Union (PUWU) and some senior and junior staff workers union at the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) are calling for the withdrawal of Collins Nuamah as the Deputy Managing Director.
The union disapproves of his nomination because according to them, Collins Nuamah is not qualified for the job, therefore, he should not be considered for the position.
The protesters picketed in front of the offices on Thursday clad in red with placards with various inscriptions calling for the Deputy MD out of office.
In a charged atmosphere, they sang while displaying their placard to express their displeasure.
Speaking to JoyNews, the National Secretariat of PUWU, Samuel Kakabaah said “We want to state on record that we are not against the appointment of heads of institutions by the Presidency.
"Our concern is that the position of the Managing Director is an appointee of the presidency but the Deputy Managing Director, we believe it is a position that should be filled with people with both the technical and institutional knowledge of our operations.”
The Union further submitted a petition to the Jubilee House and the Board, however, they are yet to receive feedback.
