Sege MP, Christian Corleytey Otuteye has appealed to parliament to investigate the killing that occurred in his constituency on Monday.
According to him, since the incident, life in the constituency has not been the same, and until investigations are carried out, residents cannot go about their livelihood.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, he said “It is extremely alarming that these hardworking individuals who are simply trying to make a living have become the target of violence.”
Narrating the incident to the house, Mr Otuteye said his constituents were in their ancestral salt mining site when a team of men from Electrochem and patrol police came to the site and tried to seize their work tools. In an attempt to prevent the police from taking their equipment, one person was shot.
Mr Otuteye requested the Speaker to refer the issue to the appropriate committee.
Also, Ada MP Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe appealed to Electrochem to allocate portions of the land for residents in the salt mining communities since mining was their only source of living.
In the meantime, the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu directed Lands and Natural Resources, and Mines and Energy committees to review the lease agreement between Electrochem and the State and advise the house on whether it could be renegotiated.
