The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bole Bamboi, Yusif Sulemana says the NDC will fight to prevent the imposition of nuisance taxes on Ghanaians.
He stressed that as a party in opposition, it is the duty of the NDC to ensure that the government does not overstep its boundaries to implement policies that will overburden citizens.
“Thank God Ghanaians have given us very good numbers, that is 137 and 138, and I can tell you they are not going to get it easy from our side," he said.
Speaking on JoyNews on Wednesday, February 7, the MP explained that although the Constitution gives more power to the governing party in Parliament, that does not mean the opposition cannot fight policies that will not favour the people.
Mr. Sulemana referred to the recent budget debate where the NDC took to the media to voice out its opposition to the proposed taxes on electricity consumption.
The MP stated that despite their stance, the governing party won the vote in Parliament. However, the NDC is not perturbed in its pursuit of tax reliefs for Ghanaians especially the business community.
"They won because one of our members was sick and was not in this country, and then we realized that if we were to vote, it was going to take the same thread, so we distanced ourselves from those tax handles, and they carried the day."
