The Deputy Managing Partner of Sam Okudzeto and Associates, Esine Okudzeto, has offered crucial advice regarding the execution of judgements in legal proceedings.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Law, Madam Okudzeto emphasised the importance of maintaining continuity in legal representation during this critical phase.
She cautioned against the temptation to seek new legal counsel solely for the execution of a judgement.
She highlighted the intricate understanding that the lawyer gains throughout the court proceedings, including insights into the opposing party's strategies and available assets for recovery.
“The lawyer during the entire court proceedings has an idea of what the other side could do. Your lawyer can have a sense of how difficult it is, how not difficult it is.
“The lawyer also in their legal research may have found out the assets the other person has and what to ‘attack’ or go after in terms of the execution to recover. If you go to a new lawyer, they are now going to start from scratch,” she said on Sunday.
While acknowledging the existence of professionals specialised in assisting with the execution of judgements, Madam Okudzeto stressed the importance of legal expertise in navigating court processes.
She indicated that hiring someone who is not a lawyer to handle court filings could pose significant risks to the client's interests.
“You will be doing yourself a disservice, so you have to advise yourself,” she warned.
