Chief Executive of Groupe Jay N Jay and former beauty queen, Sally Akua Amoakowaa, popularly known as Akua GMB, has opened up about her harrowing experience with bullying during her high school days.
Speaking on the Career Trail program on Joy Learning TV and JoyNews, she recounted how a Compound Prefect at Afia Kobi Ampem Girls Senior High School relentlessly harassed her, culminating in three unprovoked slaps.
She revealed that the traumatic experience took a significant toll on her well-being, leading her to contemplate quitting school.

"I was a victim of bullying in school, and indeed, it took only the grace of God for me to complete school. In my first year, I nearly stopped school because of one senior called Ophelia. She was a compound prefect, who was behaving that the whole school belongs to her."
"It was amazing how she had assumed so much power. This lady slapped me three times without any provocation, and up to date, I sit down and I ask myself, what at all I did to this lady to warrant that kind of hatred from her. I nearly quit school because of this lady,” she narrated.
She continued that, following the incident, she sought redress by reporting the matter to school authorities.
However, her appeals fell on deaf ears due to the perpetrator's influential position as a compound prefect and the absence of robust anti-bullying policies and procedures at the time.
Akua further highlighted the vulnerability of students, particularly those in their first year, who are often targeted by their peers yet are unable to report due to fear.
“I know a lot of people who go through same ordeal but they are not able to bring it up because of the situation that we were in at that time
She however expressed relief that measures are now in place to protect first-year students from bullying.
Akua concluded by urging victims of bullying to courageously report incidents and seek support.
