Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has called on the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) to remain vigilant in safeguarding the judiciary from undue influence and illegal pressure.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected President and executives of the GBA in Accra on Monday, November 4, he emphasised the importance of maintaining the judiciary’s independence and integrity.
During his address, Mr Dame urged the Bar Association to actively prevent and condemn any attempts to pressure or manipulate judicial decisions.
"The Bar must prevent and condemn every act of illegal pressure on the Judiciary," he asserted, highlighting the role of legal professionals in protecting the judiciary from external interference.
He further cautioned against individuals he described as "unscrupulous persons" who seek to undermine the independence of the judiciary by spreading unjustified criticisms and tarnishing its image.
Such actions, Godfred Dame warned, threaten the core values and impartiality of Ghana’s judicial system.
Dame also highlighted the critical role of the GBA and the broader legal community in upholding the “purity, dignity, and majesty of our courts.”
According to him, the association’s proactive stance in defending judicial independence would help sustain public confidence in the legal system.
In his closing remarks, Godfred Dame encouraged the new GBA leadership to continue fostering a legal environment where justice is protected from external manipulation, underscoring that the integrity of Ghana's courts is foundational to the country's democracy and rule of law.
