The National Peace Council (NPC) has called on Ghanaians to uphold peace and tolerance as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prepare for their final campaign rallies tomorrow, December 5, in Accra.
The rallies, scheduled to take place nearby at Legon and Madina, come just two days before Ghana’s presidential election on Saturday, December 7.
In a statement released today, the NPC reminded supporters of the Peace Pact signed last week by all 12 presidential candidates, including Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP and John Mahama of the NDC.
The pact commits the candidates to fostering peace and stability throughout the election period.
The NPC has also released a video promoting peace and unity, encouraging political supporters to respect differing opinions. Fouzia, an Assistant Programmes Manager at the NPC, delivers a clear message in the video:
“Elections will come and go, but we remain here as a people. Someone’s opinion or ideology does not make another’s wrong. Let’s respect and be tolerant.”
As the campaign season concludes, the NPC urges all political parties and their supporters to adhere to law and order during their rallies.
Security agencies have also been called upon to ensure professionalism while providing security for citizens.
The NPC emphasises that peaceful elections are critical for Ghana’s democracy and stability.
