Minister-nominee for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey has expressed her strong support for paternity leave.
She reiterated the importance of ensuring that fathers use the leave to spend quality time with their families.
During her vetting before the Appointments Committee on Wednesday, January 22, Naa Momo Lartey shared her vision for a more comprehensive paternity leave policy, stating that while she advocates for the introduction of such leave, she also wants to implement measures to ensure its effectiveness.
“I would love to advocate for that, but I’d also love beyond that to ensure that there’s some measures to ensure that when the men take the paternity leave, they actually spend it with the family,” she said.
Naa Momo Lartey's statement highlights her commitment to promoting gender equity in caregiving roles, ensuring that fathers play an active part in the early stages of child-rearing.
She emphasized the need for a supportive structure to ensure that paternity leave is not just a policy on paper but something that truly benefits families.
The Minister-nominee's comments reflect a growing recognition of the importance of involving fathers in caregiving, as part of efforts to create a more balanced and supportive family environment.
