Dr Stephen Amoah, the former Deputy Minister of Trade, has condemned the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) recent actions against former Finance Minister, Kenneth Ofori-Atta.
According to Dr Amoah, declaring Ofori-Ata a fugitive and raiding his house do not reflect well on the country and could compromise Ghana’s sovereignty.
The Special Prosecutor however, has denied any involvement in the raid on Ken Ofori-Atta's home.
"Sometimes, actions like these give people an undue opportunity to engage in anti-social behaviour. As a financial economist, my concern is how this affects our country globally and within Africa.
"Globalisation is key for investors, who look for democracy and security. If these issues persist, aren’t we compromising our sovereignty, particularly in terms of security?” Dr Amoah said.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Thursday, Dr. Amoah emphasised that while the OSP’s actions may stem from an effort to combat corruption, the approach was flawed.
"Is this really the way to fight corruption? The constitution clearly outlines how these matters should be handled," he added.
The OSP declared Kenneth Ofori-Atta a fugitive on Wednesday, suspecting him of causing financial losses to the state through five key contracts during his time in office.
