Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Patricia Appiagyei, has called on the government to immediately arrest and prosecute those responsible for the alleged raids on the homes of some former government officials.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, 13 February, a day after the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) declared Mr Ofori-Atta a fugitive, Madam Appiagyei said, "The harassment of former government officials must cease immediately.
"This call follows recent reports that both the OSP and the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) have allegedly raided the Accra residence of former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta, as well as the home of former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul."
Madam Appiagyei further warned, “This country belongs to all of us and no administration has the right to weaponise state institutions against its political opponents.”
She demanded an independent investigation into what she described as politically motivated attacks.
“We demand an immediate, transparent and independent investigation into these attacks and insist that those responsible be held accountable,” she added.
She continued by calling for due process to be followed on legal matters like these.
“Due process must be followed in all legal matters. The use of political vandals points to a dangerous descent into lawlessness, where due process is cast aside and state institutions are weaponised, harassed or silenced.
The minority has therefore urged the government to take immediate actions on these issues.
“We demand from the government that all those responsible for these actions must be arrested and prosecuted immediately.”
