Ranking Member on Parliament’s Finance Committee, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has called for greater dialogue and consensus between the Majority and Minority sides of Parliament in the interest of Ghana.
His comments followed the selection of James Agalga as Majority Leader, with Dr Amin Adam congratulating the Builsa North MP and expressing confidence in his ability to lead the Majority caucus.
Dr Amin Adam said Mr Agalga’s extensive experience in Parliament and government had prepared him for the demands of parliamentary leadership, while praising his intellectual ability and debating skills.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, August 9, the former Finance Minister said the Minority would continue to perform its role with vigour, particularly in defending democratic values and speaking on behalf of citizens.
“For our part, the Minority will hold our line. We will pursue our responsibility with vigour by defending our democracy and speaking for those who have no voice,” he said.
He nevertheless stressed the importance of cooperation between the leadership of both sides of the House, saying parliamentary discourse should ultimately be guided by the broader interests of the country.
Dr Amin Adam said he believed stronger engagement between the Majority and Minority leadership could help Parliament build consensus on issues of national importance.
