A 56-year-old farmer from Nyankamam in the Aowin Municipality has appeared before the Enchi District Magistrate Court for allegedly threatening to kill a miner over a piece of land.
Joseph Amissah, alias ‘Alobo Ndaah’ pleaded not guilty to two counts of threat of death.
However, the court presided over by Mr Lawrence Buanor-Buer, granted the accused person GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties, to re-appear on March 21, 2025.
Prosecutor Detective Chief Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court that, the complainant, Akwasi Anafi Bediako, hails from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region but currently resides at Nyankamam Daame, a suburb of Enchi.
He said sometime in 2019, one Amos Asare of Nyankamam leased a piece of swampy land to the complainant for mining, and he made all the necessary payments to the land and returned to his hometown.
He said in January 2025; the complainant came back and started his mining business on the piece of land.
Detective Chief Inspector Agyare said on January 23, this year, at about 11:30 am, while the complainant and his workers were on the land going about the day’s work, Amissah came there, called the complainant to a distance, and threatened him to leave the land else, he would mobilise people with guns to kill him and Asare.
The complainant reported Amissah’s conduct to Asare, and he directed him to come to Nyankaman to enable them to resolve the matter.
The prosecution said on January 27, this year, around 0630 hours, the complainant and the witness in this case met Amissah, while on their way to Asare’s house at Nyankamam and threatened him again.
He said the complainant and Asare went to the Enchi police station and made an official complaint, where Amissah was picked up, but he denied ever threatening the complainant during an investigation.
