Sports journalist Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo has donated a collection of jerseys, socks, and training gear to two schools that helped shape his journey—Vamboi Basic School and Kanton Senior High School, both in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
The donation, which took place on Monday 24th February, 2025, is a reflection of Fentuo's deep connection to the communities that played a key role in his life.

The items were handed over on Fentuo's behalf by Fatawu Ayamga, a local journalist in Tumu.
Fentuo, who grew up in the village of Vamboi in the Upper West Region of Ghana, where community members gathered to receive the items, has always spoken fondly of his roots. The items donated—15 sets of jerseys, socks, and 13 pairs of training apparel—were sourced from Swiss Super Lig side FC Basel through Ghanaian football talent manager Alex Quaye.
The gesture was a way for Fentuo to give back to the schools that nurtured him, providing the students with better resources to pursue their passion for sports.

"I’m grateful to these schools for the role they played in shaping me, and this is my way of showing my appreciation," Fentuo said of the donation. "I hope these jerseys inspire the students to not only push themselves in sports but to dream big in all areas of life."

The donation means a lot to both Vamboi Basic School and Kanton SHS, with students and teachers alike excited about the opportunity to wear proper sports gear and participate in physical activities with renewed enthusiasm. The gesture is more than just about giving sportswear—it’s about motivating the next generation to stay active, work hard, and pursue their goals, both on and off the field.
Vamboi, Fentuo’s hometown, and Kanton Senior High School, where he studied from 2001 to 2004, are both institutions that hold a special place in his heart. Over the years, Fentuo has often credited his experiences there as being instrumental in his career, and now, he’s helping provide the students with the tools they need to excel in sports and beyond.

The students were overjoyed at the sight of the new gear, and many expressed their gratitude for Fentuo’s thoughtfulness. It was a moment that not only showcased the importance of supporting young people but also reminded everyone present of the power of community and the difference a single person can make.
For Fentuo, the donation was more than just a charitable act. It was a reminder of how far he’s come and how much he wants to keep giving back. He’s become a well-known sports journalist, but he hasn’t forgotten his roots. This gesture serves as a beacon for others in the community, showing that no matter where you come from, you can always make an impact.

The jerseys, socks, and training apparel will serve as a source of inspiration and a reminder that someone from their own community cares about their future. Fentuo’s commitment to supporting grassroots sports is just one example of how powerful it can be when you choose to invest in the next generation.

As both Vamboi Basic School and Kanton SHS move forward, this donation will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the students. And for Fentuo, it’s just one of the many ways he continues to give back to the places that made him who he is today.
