Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has assured that the government will address the concerns of over 300 unpaid pharmacists who have not received their salaries since being engaged by the state.
Speaking during the presentation of the 2025 Budget on March 11, Dr. Forson acknowledged the issue, explaining that it was brought to his attention during a pre-budget consultation with the youth on social media.
He informed Parliament that his ministry will take steps to resolve the matter and ensure that the affected personnel receive the payments they are owed.
"During my engagement with the youth, it was revealed that 321 pharmacists who were employed since June 2023, have not received their salaries. We will take urgent steps to remedy this situation immediately," he stated.
The assurance comes as part of the government’s broader commitment to improving conditions for health sector workers, many of whom have raised concerns over delayed salaries and financial hardships.
He added that "This conversation was an eye-opening experience, one that strengthened my belief that the voices of the youth matter in designing policies that directly and indirectly impact their lives, and future."
