The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council has directed the management of the Kejetia Market in Kumasi to step aside for investigations.
This is in response to allegations of mismanagement levelled against the management of the Kumasi City Markets Limited, managers of the Kejetia facility.
According to the release, the ARCC had earlier met management of the market and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly where issues of sanitation, utility bills and general services were discussed.

To allow for the necessary investigations, a three-member committee has been established to take over management of the market.
Prince Ofori-Atta chairs the interim committee, supported by Amoah Prince Amoako who will be in charge of operations, while Nana Prempeh Amankwaa leads security.
The Kejetia market is the largest trading hub in the Ashanti Region.
But the facility has faced several challenges including default in payment of electricity bills, poor fire-readiness and poor sanitation.
