Former President John Mahama has expressed his condolences following the passing of Pope Francis, describing the late pontiff as a global symbol of compassion, humility, and justice.
In a message posted on social media shortly after news of the Pope’s death broke, President Mahama paid tribute to the Pope’s enduring influence.
“His legacy of compassion, humility, and commitment to social justice will continue to inspire generations. His leadership and advocacy for the poor and marginalised resonate deeply.”
“May his soul rest in perfect peace,” he added.
He also extended sympathy on behalf of his family and the people of Ghana to the Roman Catholic Church and the wider Catholic community.

President Mahama fondly recalled his personal encounter with the Pope during a visit to the Vatican with his wife, Lordina Mahama, adding that the experience left a lasting impression on them.
