Three individuals have sustained serious injuries following an explosion at a vulcaniser shop in New Nkusukum, near Volta Bar in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
The victims are currently receiving treatment at the Roman Hospital in Mankessim, with one of them, identified as Richard and believed to be in his 30s, said to be in critical condition.
Eyewitness Isaac Opoku, who spoke to Adom News, said the explosion occurred while they were offloading goods near the shop.
“We were just offloading items when we heard a loud blast. We rushed to the scene and saw Richard lying on the ground with his intestines out. The other two had broken limbs,” he recounted.
One of the victims told emergency responders that they had been pumping a tyre when the machine suddenly exploded. The exact cause of the blast is yet to be determined.
Authorities are expected to begin investigations to ascertain what triggered the incident.
