Nyakrom Senior High Technical School has cruised to a commanding victory in the second contest of the day at the 2025 Central Regional qualifiers of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), firmly securing their spot in the national championship.
In what appeared to be a no-contest right from the start, Nyakrom SHTS dominated round one with an impressive 35 points, leaving their closest contenders, T.I Ahmadiyya SHS Potsin, trailing by a 25-point margin. Fettehman SHS and Diaso SHS followed with 9 and 6 points, respectively.
Round two saw Nyakrom SHTS stretching their lead even further. While they advanced to 44 points, their competitors, surprisingly, dropped in scores. Fettehman and T.I Ahmadiyya SHS Potsin lost 3 and 2 points respectively, ending the round with 6 and 8 points.
Despite the overwhelming win, the quiz centre remained unusually silent. That’s because Nyakrom SHTS had no cheering squad, only their three contestants represented the school at the University of Cape Coast venue. But their quiet presence did not stop them from storming through the competition.
By the end of round three, Nyakrom SHTS had secured 54 points, with Fettehman at 19, Diaso SHS at 16, and T.I Ahmadiyya SHS Potsin at 15.
In the final riddle round, Nyakrom SHTS rang in confidently and answered the first three riddles correctly. The final riddle stumped all four schools, but by then, it hardly mattered. With a total of 64 points, Nyakrom SHTS sealed a powerful win.
Their qualification puts them in the running for the Central Regional championship title, and earns them an automatic place in the national championship, a shot at glory on the big NSMQ stage.
