Akonta Mining Docket Ready for Prosecution
The Attorney General also confirmed that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has submitted a completed docket on the Akonta Mining case.
“The Police CID have also completed a docket on the Akonta Mining case and submitted the same to my office,” Dr Ayine revealed. “We have prepared charges and sent them back to the Police CID for the suspects to be formally charged before their arraignment in court in the coming days.”
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, on Monday, April 21, directed the immediate revocation of all mining licenses held by Akonta Mining Company Limited.
This follows serious allegations of illegal mining activities (galamsey) and regulatory breaches by the mining company.
