Thirty-nine people died, and 91,989 others were affected by the floods that struck parts of Ghana on June 29, 2026, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has disclosed.

According to the Minister, the disaster affected 18,398 households across 77 districts in seven regions.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 24, Mr Mohammed-Mubarak said one person, a four-month-old baby in the Ga East Municipality, remained missing following the floods.

“A total of 91,989 persons from 18,398 households were victims of the disaster,” he stated.

The Greater Accra Region recorded the highest number of affected persons, with 56,022 people impacted across 27 districts and 17 deaths.

In the Central Region, 18 people died, while 21,882 residents across 16 districts were affected.

The Volta Region recorded four deaths, with 9,466 people affected across seven districts.

The Western North Region recorded 937 affected persons across six districts, with no deaths reported, while the Western Region recorded 2,031 affected persons across two districts.

In the Eastern Region, 190 people were affected in one district, while 1,461 people were affected across 16 districts in the Ashanti Region. No deaths were recorded in either region.

Praise for emergency response agencies

Mr Mohammed-Mubarak commended the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service and other institutions for their role in the rescue and relief operations.

“I want to thank NADMO, the police, the Ghana National Fire Service and all those who came to our aid and helped make the weight lighter for the victims and those who were affected,” he said.

He added that NADMO had responded to 912 emergencies and provided support to more than 713,000 disaster victims across the country during the broader period under review.
