The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has acclaimed businessman and its constituency Treasurer, Solomon Asumadu, as the parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
Scheduled for September 2, 2025, the process is to elect a successor for the sitting MP Ernest Yaw Kumi, who suddenly passed on July 7, following a brief illness.
Mr Asumadu thanked the party and the constituency for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to work tirelessly to bring development in all areas of the constituency.
He described the endorsement as a call to service and urged all constituents, particularly NPP members, to rally together for victory to uphold and advance the legacy and vision Yaw Kumi set for Akwatia.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the NPP General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, stated that the National Council unanimously approved Mr Asumadu’s nomination following extensive consultations with party elders and stakeholders.
Mr Asumadu is widely regarded as a committed grassroots mobiliser and a strong financier of the party’s activities in Akwatia.
His loyalty and long-standing service to the party have earned him the trust and backing of both the national leadership and the local constituency executives.
