The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) has expressed deep sorrow and shock over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including two senior government ministers and three military personnel, on Wednesday, 6th August, 2025.
Among the deceased were Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence and former Minister of Communications; Alhaji Dr Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology; Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC); Mr Samuel Aboagye, a former parliamentary candidate; and three members of the Ghana Armed Forces – Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Flying Officer Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, August 7, GIBA described the incident as “a tremendous loss not only to their families and the Government of the Republic of Ghana but to the entire nation.”
The association paid special tribute to the ministers, acknowledging the integrity and dedication of both Dr Boamah and Dr Murtala Mohammed, praising their unwavering service to national progress.
“The remarkable contributions and unwavering dedication of those we have lost, especially Hon. Dr Omane Boamah and Hon. Alhaji Dr Murtala Mohammed, will forever be remembered. Their service was marked by integrity, passion, and a steadfast commitment to the advancement of our nation,” the statement read.
GIBA extended heartfelt condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the bereaved families, Parliament, the Ghana Armed Forces, and all Ghanaians during what it called “a time of profound sorrow and national mourning”.
“We pray for strength, comfort, and healing for the families left behind, and we ask for eternal rest and peace for the souls of our departed leaders and compatriots,” the association added.
GIBA urged Ghanaians to reflect on the legacies of the departed and to allow their lives of service to inspire present and future generations.
