The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto, has become the first recipient of the newly launched Ghana Gold Pendant, a luxury accessory valued at GH¢150,000.
The symbolic presentation was made on Tuesday during a special media and sales soiree organised by MentraxOro Jewellery at its East Legon office in Accra.
The event, which brought together journalists, sales partners, and potential buyers, officially marked the start of public sales of the pendant following its unveiling last month.
Attendees were taken through the design and craftsmanship of the pendant, its cultural symbolism, and its role in promoting Ghana’s tourism, arts, and heritage.
The Ghana Gold Pendant, crafted from pure Ghanaian gold, features the face of President John Mahama on the front and the Independence Arch at the back.
It is encased with luxury finishing and presented as a collector’s piece celebrating Ghana’s culture and history.
Presenting the pendant, the company’s Sales Manager, Peridot Walterson, and Public Relations Officer, Andre Mustapha Nii Okai Inusah, described it as “a generational treasure that captures Ghana’s story in gold.”

Receiving the first pendant, Ms. Houadjeto expressed her appreciation, describing the initiative as both “bold and timely.”
“This is a beautiful piece of art and heritage. The Ghana Tourism Authority is grateful to be part of this soiree. For many years, we have encouraged Ghanaians to tell our story in innovative ways, and MentraxOro has taken a major step in doing that through this product,” she said.
She further noted that, since the pendant incorporates national tourism symbols, the Authority would engage MentraxOro for potential collaborations and appropriate permissions going forward.
MentraxOro explained that beyond being a luxury jewellery item, the pendant is a wearable emblem of Ghana’s identity, crafted by local artisans to appeal not only to Ghanaians at home but also to the diaspora.
“From the threads of Kente to the rhythm of our drums, Ghana’s story is unique. This pendant is an attempt to capture that identity in gold, something that owners can cherish and pass down for generations,” the company said.
With the official commencement of sales, MentraxOro is positioning the Ghana Gold Pendant as both a luxury lifestyle statement and a patriotic keepsake.
For Ms. Houadjeto, being the first to receive the pendant represents more than a personal honour. It underscores the alignment of tourism, culture, and industry in projecting Ghana’s image to the world.
