The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has led a high-level security delegation to the Savannah Region in response to recent communal clashes that left several people dead.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the team from the National Police Headquarters will engage chiefs, opinion leaders and community representatives to discuss measures aimed at restoring peace.
The Police Service indicated that the visit forms part of broader efforts to strengthen security presence in Sawla, Gbiniyiri, Giniri and other affected communities.
“We urge all parties to remain calm and work with the security teams to ensure lasting peace in the area,” the Service said in a statement.
The clashes, which erupted on Sunday, August 24, at Gbiniyiri following a dispute over land, claimed at least five lives, while six others sustained injuries. Three of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
Reinforcement teams, working alongside the Ghana Armed Forces and other security agencies, have already been deployed to stabilise the area.
