The Tano North MP has rubbished claims by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Tano North Constituency Secretary that the former Vice President cannot win the 2028 elections.
Stephen Ntiamoah had said that his support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is based solely on loyalty, although he's fully aware that Dr Bawumia cannot win the 2028 elections.
Describing the comments as “wicked lies,” the spokesperson for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Gideon Boako, stressed that such allegations are baseless and must be treated with contempt.
In a statement responding to the claims, Dr Boako clarified that he was not present at the said delegates’ meeting where the remarks were reportedly made.
He said his backing of Dr Bawumia is not borne out of blind loyalty but rather deep conviction in his competence and preparedness.
“My support for Dr Bawumia is based on my firm belief that he is the most credible, experienced and winnable candidate to lead the NPP into victory in 2028. Any claims to the contrary are nothing but figments of imagination,” he said.
The Tano North legislator further pointed to the overwhelming endorsement Dr Bawumia received in the 2023 NPP flagbearer elections in his constituency, where he secured 83% of the votes.
He added that the people of Tano North remain committed to backing Dr Bawumia, and that he himself is fully focused on mobilising support for the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate while fulfilling his parliamentary duties.
Dr Boako also cautioned against attempts by aspirants to associate his name with their campaigns, saying his political goodwill is the product of years of humble and dedicated service, strongly supported by Dr Bawumia.
“We will continue to work with all our energy for Dr Bawumia, and come 31st January 2026, the results will once again speak for themselves. Let us stay focused. Victory is assured,” he declared.
