Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has challenged the Special Prosecutor to bring former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to justice or step down.

Speaking on The Pulse on September 23, Mr. Gbande accused Mr Ofori-Atta of portraying himself as a victim while abroad.

“Ken Ofori Attah is sitting in the U.S. and pretending to the White people as if he has been victimised by this government and that he is innocent," he said.

He warned that the NDC would put pressure on the Special Prosecutor to act.

“We are going to put pressure on the Special Prosecutor. If he cannot bring Ken Ofori-Attah for us, he should resign,” Mr. Gbande said.

Describing Ofori-Atta as “a wanted fugitive of national conscience, including people in the NPP,” Mr. Gbande said the former minister must be brought down to face justice.

He also criticised what he called selective enforcement by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

"If we sit here and EOCO is arresting Ghanaians and extraditing them to the US, and the US will not bring one wanted man—a man who has even punished our pensioners, taking their money, yet supervised every scandal that transpired in the Nana Addo administration in the last eight years—he has no business sitting there as head of Special Prosecutors,” he said.

Warning of possible action if nothing is done, Mr. Gbande added, “Then we are going to stop EOCO from arresting stolen cars. We can’t be doing that. Only one man—bring him. He is not sick. Bring him. Let him come and die here; we will attend his funeral. He is saying that when some people die, they will assume their dead bodies. We will be here to see Ken Ofori-Atta being prosecuted, whether they like it or not.”
