Three bodies were recovered on Thursday following the collapse of an illegal mining (galamsey) pit at Twifo Mampong in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.
The deceased were said to be among a total of five youngsters who had reportedly sneaked into an illegal mining pit to work at night.
The pit reportedly collapsed on them around 1:00 am on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
Efforts were underway to recover the body of the fourth person.
A fifth person, who was operating a pumping machine, managed to escape and raised an alarm.
It took several hours to recover the bodies in the operation led by the Twifo Praso District Police Command, in collaboration with the District Chief Executive (DCE), Isaac Yawson, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the Ghana National Fire Service.
