The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has rejected Asante Kotoko’s request to use the Baba Yara Stadium for their CAF Confederation Cup fixture against Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club in the second preliminary round.
The Porcupine Warriors had hoped to host the game at their homeground in Kumasi, believing recent improvements would meet CAF’s standards.
However, the continental body has ruled otherwise, declaring the facility unfit to stage the crucial encounter.
“Management regrettably announces that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declined the approval of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host Asante Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco,” the club confirmed in a statement.
“As a result, the club will now play its crucial first leg tie at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 19, 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 pm.”
Kotoko progressed after eliminating Nigeria’s Kwara United with a 5-3 aggregate victory in a first-round encounter in the capital.
The Kumasi-based side will now turn their focus to a Ghana Premier League clash against city rivals Nations FC on October 11 before facing Wydad in the CAF inter-club competition.
