Farmers’ Day celebrations in Tema took a sporty twist as the Premier Tennis Club hosted its widely-patronised annual tennis tournament, backed by the KGL Foundation.
The event drew hundreds of tennis lovers to the club’s courts, where teams battled for bragging rights in one of the community’s most anticipated Farmers’ Day sporting fixtures.
In the doubles final, Richard Frimpong Ansah and Sisu Tomegah of the Sakumono Tennis Club delivered a commanding performance to defeat the host team 7–1 and lift the title.
Chairman of the Sakumono Tennis Club, Dr. Stephen Babson, expressed delight after the victory, noting that the team arrived confident yet respectful of the competition.
Their relaxed approach, he said, contributed to their success and reflects the club’s steady progress, as promised during its 20th-anniversary celebration.
Ansah and Tomegah, competing for Sakumono Tennis Club for the first time, shared their excitement.
“This is our first time representing Sakumono Tennis Club, and we are happy to have made them proud. It was a very good game,” they said.
Chairman of the Premier Tennis Club, Dr. Michael Quashie, described the tournament as a meaningful way to honour farmers through sports.
He added that while this year’s edition was a success, plans are underway to make the next one even bigger.
The lively event concluded with an awards ceremony, food, and music, bringing a vibrant end to this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration at the club.
