A Tamale Circuit Court has remanded three men into prison custody for their alleged roles in a recent kidnapping incident near Wapuli in the Northern Region.
The suspects — Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bandi, and Osman Bandi — appeared before the court on preliminary charges of kidnapping and conspiracy.
Prosecutors told the court that the three were arrested through intelligence-led operations following the abduction of a 42-year-old victim at Tindugu, near Yankazia and Wapuli in the Saboba District, on December 2, 2025. They said investigations are still ongoing, with key exhibits and witness statements yet to be finalised.
They therefore requested that the suspects be kept in prison custody to prevent interference with the investigation.
Northern Regional Police PRO, Luckman Nindow, confirmed the development on Monday, noting that the suspects are expected to reappear in court next week. He also rejected claims that police are reluctant to act on kidnapping cases involving Fulani individuals.
“It is a figment of their imagination to suggest that the police are not proactive. We have demonstrated our commitment, as evidenced by the success of our intelligence-led operation,” he said.
Police say the victim was rescued after a gun battle at the suspects’ hideout in Bokpaba, near Bimbila, in the Nanumba North District, where the accused were also arrested.
Mr Nindow urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activity to help curb rising kidnapping incidents in the area.
