The Ministry of Education has issued a firm denial following the circulation of a publication attributing comments to the Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, regarding the introduction of a 13th-month salary for teachers.

According to the Ministry, the article in question claimed that the Minister made these remarks during a policy forum held in Accra on Monday, suggesting that such a measure would be implemented to enhance teacher welfare and motivation.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 17, the Ministry refuted the report, describing it as a deliberate falsehood, misinformation, and disinformation aimed at misleading the public.

“At no point during any engagement, public forum, or official interaction has the Minister made such a statement,” the Ministry emphasised.

The Ministry further clarified that while the government remains committed to improving the welfare and working conditions of teachers and all education sector workers, such initiatives are pursued through structured dialogue and sustainable policy measures.

It confirmed that no proposal for a 13th-month salary has been announced or advocated by the Minister.

The Ministry of Education has called on Opera News to immediately retract the false publication and issue a full, unqualified apology to both the Minister and the Ministry.

Members of the public are urged to ignore the erroneous report and refrain from spreading unverified or misleading information, which could lead to unnecessary confusion and concern.

“The Ministry remains committed to transparent communication and will continue to engage the public through credible and official channels,” the statement concluded.
