Mohammed V Hospital in Safi has activated its emergency plan to manage injuries following the sudden torrential rains that hit the province on Sunday, hospital director Khalid Iazza confirmed.

In a statement to MAP, he said the plan mobilises medical staff, nurses, and administrative personnel, while ensuring all necessary human and logistical resources are available.

The hospital had initially allocated 50 beds for emergency cases, with the capacity to expand to other departments if needed.

“All necessary equipment is available,” Iazza said, including a CT scanner, radiology and ultrasound machines, blood testing facilities, as well as essential logistical supplies like bedding. “No shortage has been recorded in terms of emergency response at the hospital.”

The mobilisation also involved recalling five doctors from the emergency department, two anesthesiologists, one orthopaedic surgeon, and one neurosurgeon.

By 6 p.m. on Sunday, the emergency services had received 61 cases, including two patients admitted to intensive care, whose conditions remain stable. Another 18 patients suffering from severe hypothermia were hospitalised.

Iazza noted that many patients seen earlier in the day were in good health.

“Thirteen patients have been discharged, five continue their treatment, and the two in intensive care are stable and expected to leave either tonight or tomorrow,” he said.

“The situation is under control thanks to the hospital’s state of readiness and mobilisation, which made it possible to provide all necessary healthcare services to the patients,” Iazza concluded.
