The Ministry of the Interior has announced a new curfew for Nalerigu Township and its surrounding areas in the North-East Region, effective Monday, January 5.
The curfew, instituted on the advice of the National Security Council through an Executive Instrument, will be in force from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am daily.
In a statement shared on Facebook, the Ministry urged chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to exercise restraint amid the ongoing challenges confronting the community.
"Government urges chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area."
The government called on citizens to channel their energies through non-violent means to promote peace and security in the region.
In addition to the curfew, authorities have imposed a total ban on the possession of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Nalerigu Township and its environs.
The Ministry warned that anyone found in violation of the ban will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
"Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the Nalerigu Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive objects/ weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted," the statement read.
