Former Member of Parliament Inusah Fuseini has claimed that the wife of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta once confronted former Attorney General Gloria Akuffo over what she perceived as an inadequate pace in prosecuting former officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Fuseini stated he was present during the encounter, which he said occurred in a gym at the Air Force facility.
“I exercise in the same gym with them at Air Force and I can tell you on authority that the wife of Ken Ofori-Atta picked a fight with Gloria Akuffo because she felt that Gloria Akuffo was not prosecuting NDC former appointees enough,” Mr Fuseini said.
The claim drew rebuke from fellow panelist Paul Adom-Otchere, who interjected that it was unfair to name individuals who were not present to defend themselves and demanded a retraction.
Host Samson Lardi Ayenini also challenged Fuseini, asking, “Don’t you agree with me that it’s unfair that the person is not here to defend herself, and you are now talking about a conversation that you may have overheard?”
Mr Fuseini stood by his account, arguing that the gym was a public space and that he had named individuals who could be contacted for verification.
He further suggested that Akuffo’s eventual removal from office was linked to the perception that she had failed to pursue NDC-era prosecutions aggressively enough to satisfy certain interests.
“If you don’t want to reach out to the woman… you can reach out to Gloria Akuffo,” Fuseini said.
“She might explain to you… that Gloria Akuffo was finally removed from office because of the perception that she failed to prosecute people who were former appointees of the NDC… in accordance with the desires of the Ofori-Attas.”
Neither Gloria Akuffo nor representatives for the Ofori-Atta family had issued public responses to the allegations at the time of reporting.
