Former Sekondi MP and ex-Tourism Minister, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has defended the former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, against criticisms over Ghana’s economic management, insisting that time will ultimately prove the former Vice President’s record.
Mr Mercer referenced comments made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the state of the economy under previous administrations.
“The NDC had also said that the Akufo-Addo government—and the question is, we mismanaged which economy? We had real issues,” he said.
Mercer emphasised that Dr. Bawumia’s approach and contributions should not be judged hastily. “You guys can describe Dr. Bawumia in any way that you want, but time is always what vindicates everybody,” he added, stressing the importance of long-term assessment.
Speaking on Metro TV on Tuesday, February 3, he argued that political commentary often overlooks structural challenges and cautioned against assigning blame without considering broader economic contexts.
