In a rare twist of fate, two of Ghana’s young politicians from the country’s major political parties—the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—have returned to Cape Coast, not as students but as distinguished alumni, to play leading roles in their schools’ anniversary celebrations.
The Adisadel College (ADISCO) celebrates its 116th Speech and Prize Giving Day tomorrow, March 14, 2025, with the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, serving as Special Guest of Honour.
Also, the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, George Opare Addo, is expected to inspire students to dream big and achieve their goals, while addressing pressing issues such as drug abuse and rising addiction among Ghanaian youth.
Just ten minutes away, St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) will host thousands of students and alumni for its 96th Speech and Prize Giving Day. The chairman of this year’s celebrations is the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, and former NPP National Youth Organiser, Samuel Awuku.
He will motivate students and introduce an annual Game Changers Award recognising excellence in leadership, sustainability, and governance.
Interestingly, both George Opare Addo (Pablo) and Samuel Awuku (Capo) were roommates at the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, highlighting a long-standing friendship that transcends party lines.
This weekend promises to be a vibrant one in Cape Coast as education, social life, and alumni pride converge, with politics taking a backseat to celebration and inspiration.
