The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will hold its National Delegates Conference on Saturday, September 19, where delegates are expected to elect new national officers and consider other key party matters.
The decision, according to the party, was taken by its National Executive Committee (NEC) and later approved by the National Council during separate meetings held on Thursday, June 25.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, July 8, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said the conference would be held in line with Article 10(1) of the NPP Constitution.
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has fixed Saturday, September 19, 2026, as the date for its National Delegates Conference, at which delegates will, among other matters, elect National Officers of the Party pursuant to Article 10(1) of the Party Constitution,” the statement said.
The announcement sets in motion one of the party’s key internal processes ahead of the conference, with the leadership also opening the door for proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.
Ahead of the conference, the party has invited members and stakeholders to submit proposals for amendments to its constitution as part of a constitutional review process expected to feed into deliberations at the conference.
Mr Frimpong said the invitation was being made in accordance with Article 19(2) of the party’s constitution.
“Ahead of the conference, the General Secretary, acting pursuant to Article 19(2) of the Party Constitution, hereby formally invites proposals for amendments to the Party’s Constitution,” the statement said.
The party directed that all proposals should be submitted either physically to the Office of the General Secretary at the NPP’s national headquarters or sent electronically via nppconstitutionalamendment@gmail.com.
It also announced a deadline for the submission of proposals, urging interested persons to act promptly.
“The deadline for the submission of all proposals is Friday, July 17,” the statement added.
The party is encouraging its members and other stakeholders to use the constitutional review process to help shape its internal structures and democratic systems.
According to the statement, the exercise is intended to produce reforms that will improve the party’s internal functioning and governance.
“The Party encourages all members and stakeholders to take advantage of this constitutional review process by submitting proposals that will further strengthen the Party’s structures, enhance its internal democratic processes, and promote effective governance,” it said.
The NPP said the process forms part of its broader commitment to democratic practice within the party and respect for its own constitution.
“As the Party prepares for its National Delegates Conference, it remains committed to constitutionalism, internal democracy, and the rule of law, ensuring adherence to the Party Constitution and its democratic traditions,” the statement said.
