Asamoah Gyan is hoping he can put his first season disappointment behind him and show Stade Rennes he can be relied upon for goals.
As the French top league begins this weekend, Gyan is confident he can stay on his feet and find his best form after a disappointing first season.
Gyan joined Rennes last season in a big money deal from Udinese but the return for that was one goal in fifteen games and long spells on the injury list.
Now after a pre-season he spent with his club doctor in Accra Gyan is raring to go.
“I feel that this season I must show Rennes the qualities that convinced them to buy me,” the Black Stars striker said. “I put a lot work in during the pre-season and hope it will pay off.”
Gyan is one of many key Ghana players in the French league facing make or break season.
John Mensah has been deemed surplus to requirement at Olympique Lyon while Dede Ayew has been told by Marseille he has no future there.
But there are a few bright spots. Jonathan Quartey has made the switch from Kaizer Chiefs to Nice and is confident he can make an impression in his first season. At the same club, Enoch Adu Kofi and Abeiku Quansah are hoping to make the step up from junior side members to first team players.
Elsewhere at Auxerre, Moussa Narry who was one of the most consistent Ghanaian players will be hoping for more of the same after his impressive outings last season.
