Marcel Desailly reckons Ghana must prove themselves as world beaters at the Africa Nations Cup in Angola before heading to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa later next year.
The Ghana-born former France captain is confident the Black Stars can improve on their second round showing at the 2006 World Cup in Germany but says a lot will depend on how they play in Angola.
"The Nations Cup will be like the major preparations for the Black Stars and there the team must prove that they are able to handle the pressure and big expectations," Desailly said.
"I think the players can go on to do well in South Africa because they have got more experience and have a better understanding of what to expect."
Desailly says qualification for another world cup is a tribute to the organisation of the game here.
"It looks like the coach has quality, that the GFA understands the needs of the players and that the organisation has gotten better."
